Staying on Course, despite a relative economic slow down

According to EY’s 2016 Africa attractiveness program 2016, Staying the course, despite a relative slow down, Sub-Saharan Africa remains one of the fastest growing regions in the world. This is reflected in the foreign direct investment (FDI) levels in 2015, where FDI project numbers increased by 7%. Although, the capital value of projects was down year-on-year — from US$88.5bn in 2014 to US$71.3bn in 2015 — this was still higher than the 2010–2014 average of US$68bn. Similarly, jobs created were down year-on-year, but, again ahead of the average for 2010–2014.

Sub-Saharan Africa improves its state of globalisation

According to the recently released 2014 DHL Global Connectedness Index (GCI,) a detailed analysis of the state of globalisation around the world by DHL, South Africa is ranked 3rd in the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) region when it comes to the state of globalisation. The report also reveals that the SSA region averaged the third largest increase in connectedness from 2011 to 2013 among all global regions.
