Cape Construction Expo meets the Western Cape’s building demand

PROFESSIONAL training and development are among the core drivers for the success of the Western Cape building and construction industry. This is also supported by statistics from the Master Builders Association, according to which 50% of all training for the building industry nationwide is conducted in the Western Cape.

The organisers of the Cape Construction Expo have taken this to heart when putting together the exhibition.

Free-to-attend workshop programme for W Cape construction professionals

The Cape Construction Expo is dedicated exclusively to the needs of the Western Cape building and construction industry. The forum brings together construction professionals of different backgrounds, suppliers, service providers, regional government representatives and investors. Aside from an interactive exhibition floor, the Cape Construction Expo offers a comprehensive programme of free-to-attend workshops for construction professionals.

Programme director, Stefanie Pillay, explains the background: “During our initial planning phase of the event, the market expressed a need for education in many different areas of the construction sector. This is how the idea of a workshop programme was born. We spent several weeks doing in depth research with the building and construction industry in the Western Cape. I’m very pleased with the result because the programme reflects the needs of construction professionals active in the Western Cape. It’s a programme by industry experts for their peers.”

Different content zones to cover the needs of all participants

To maximise the benefit for the participants, the workshop area has been split in different content zones: Strategy, Materials, Services, Tools & Technology, Chemicals, “How-to” and a Student Zone.

Each zone has a very clear focus to ensure the needs of the Western Cape construction industry are met and visitors leave the expo feeling they have achieved their goals of attending.

The workshops on day one and two predominantly target large and medium sized companies and the third day covers aspects relevant for
smaller companies.

The expo also opens on Saturday, where it features a series of workshops for students, providing an overview of career opportunities for young people in different areas of the building and construction industry.

Workshops hosted by the industry for the industry

To ensure the relevance of the programme, the workshops are hosted by industry experts. “We go through great efforts to make sure that the workshops are held by experts in their field to maximise the benefit for the participants,” says Ms Pillay. The agenda features local government representatives, key associations, selected suppliers or service providers and companies presenting best practise case studies.

Cape Construction Expo is held from 31 October – 2 November at the Cape Town Convention Centre.  Over 1,500 invited visitors and approximately 100 exhibitors are expected to participate.
