Maximising space and performance with compact sensors

Space is often at a premium in manufacturing and processing plants. Sourcing sensors that can effectively perform their selected tasks, while allowing for installation in tight spaces can be problematic.

The Leuze Series 5 from Countapulse Controls is a compact photoelectric sensor that is ideal for restricted installation spaces.

According to Gerry Bryant, managing director of Countapulse Controls, the successful selection of the appropriate sensor rests on a comprehensive plant survey undertaken by the sensor supplier. “There are thousands of sensors available on the market today, but not all of these are suitable for just any given environment or for the ultimate end purpose. Countapulse Controls receives repeat business from a number of its customers because of the investment it makes in familiarising itself with end users’ specific needs.

“Parameters that should be considered include the range of the sensor, the speed of the automatic process, the background conditions and type of product, auxiliary equipment and the circuits within the process. By adopting a structured approach to selecting the most appropriate sensors or flow monitors for a given application, customers will experience enhanced operational advantages,” he continues.

The Leuze Series 5 sensor is ideal for use in packaging technology, on conveyor and storage systems as well as in special-purpose machinery manufacturing. “Due to the large temperature range of between minus 40 and plus 60°C, the sensors are suitable for applications in extreme climatic conditions, for example cold storage facilities,” Bryant points out.

This rugged industrial unit has a sturdy plastic housing, with protection to Class IP 67. A flexible cable outlet, which can lead from below or behind the unit, allows integration into the tightest available installation spaces. Alignment and commissioning are quickly completed using the large, highly visible brightVision light spot.

During operation, a high range and the A2LS active suppression of extraneous light, ensures complete reliability of the unit.

Leading sensor solutions supplier, Countapulse Controls, has been providing sensing solution to industry for more than thirty years and operates a 24.7 technical helpline to assist its customers.
