Developing countries are facing the harsh impact of declining commodity prices

Delegates at the meeting of the G20 Trade Ministers that is held in Istanbul, Turkey are in agreement that globally trade has slow down. The meeting was focusing on the slowdown in global trade and how to make the multilateral trading system work better. The meeting also focused on the implications of the global trade slowdown for the future of trade and at policy options to further integrate SMEs into global value chains.


SA and France discuss key factors for bilateral trade

South Africa and France have discussed cooperation in different sectors with localisation and investment opportunities as cross-cutting themes as Dr Rob Davies, Minister of Trade and Industry met with French Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Matthias Fekl. Sectors identified by South Africa and France included engineering and industrial sub-contracting, energy and green energy, transport and agribusiness.


Local procurement is a legal requirement

“The procurement of local content is not just a recommendation, it is a legal requirement for state entities,” says Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies. All organs of state are obliged to procure goods that are on the designated list and conform with local content requirements.
