Eskom asks for 17% tariff hike

Energy regulator – Nersa – will be hosting public hearings on Eskom’s proposal to recoup R22.8bn through a regulatory clearing account (RCA) from 18 January to 5 February 2016. The shortfall includes an estimated R8bn that the utility spent on diesel during the 2013/2014 financial year and R11.7bn for a shortfall in revenue.

According to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA,) security of fuel supply to the Western Cape is essential for the region’s economic growth. Unfortunately, fuel shortages continue to be an issue for the region. To address this, Transnet awarded a 20-year tender to Burgan Cape Terminals for the construction of an independently owned and operated liquid fuels storage and distribution facility at the Eastern Mole of the Port of Cape Town.
