Eskom asks for 17% tariff hike

Energy regulator – Nersa – will be hosting public hearings on Eskom’s proposal to recoup R22.8bn through a regulatory clearing account (RCA) from 18 January to 5 February 2016. The shortfall includes an estimated R8bn that the utility spent on diesel during the 2013/2014 financial year and R11.7bn for a shortfall in revenue.

Gas sector green light to boost supply

Relief is in sight for the beleaguered gas industry as the National Energy Regulator has issued two licences for the development of much needed infrastructure on the West Coast that will increase liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) imports to help alleviate the shortage in the country.

Chevron South Africa, oil company which trades under the Caltex brand in the country, says it is deeply concerned by the reasons recently published by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) for its decision in granting licences to Burgan Cape Terminals for the construction and operation of a loading and storage facility in the Port of Cape Town.

NERSA public hearings into independent fuel storage facility at Port of Cape Town

According to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA,) security of fuel supply to the Western Cape is essential for the region’s economic growth. Unfortunately, fuel shortages continue to be an issue for the region. To address this, Transnet awarded a 20-year tender to Burgan Cape Terminals for the construction of an independently owned and operated liquid fuels storage and distribution facility at the Eastern Mole of the Port of Cape Town.
