Sasol needs more time to meet air pollution laws

South African petrochemicals group Sasol plans to apply to postpone a 2020 deadline for meeting stricter air pollution laws. The company, which announced this at the beginning of June, said it intended to apply for an extension for some of its plants to meet the air pollution laws by 2025 as it might only be able to do so by then.

SNC-Lavalin helps customers prepare for new carbon tax

The implementation of a new carbon tax in South Africa is set for 2016 and will require companies to pay tax on a percentage of their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The tax is part of the government’s plan to undertake appropriate national actions to curb greenhouse gas emissions by 34% by 2020 and a further 42% by 2025. This plan follows on commitments made at the 2009 Copenhagen Conference of Parties.
