Minister of Energy appoints new CEO for NERSA

Tina Joemat-Pettersson, Minister of Energy has appointed Christopher Forlee as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and full-time regulator member of the National Energy Regulator (NERSA) for a period of five years. The post will take effect from 1 January 2017 to 31 December 2021.

“I look forward to the meaningful and progressive impact and stability that Christopher will bring to the wider energy sector, and NERSA in particular. I hope that his tenure will allow his professional fulfilment to reach new heights in the sector,” says Minister Joemat-Petterson.

The appointment was approved by Cabinet on 7 December 2016, subsequent to a comprehensive recruitment process overseen by the Department of Energy and in collaboration with the NERSA Board.

Forlee is an electrical engineer and a highly-experienced professional within the energysector. Over the past 26 years he has held various technical, managerial and executivepositions spanning the state-owned, government and business spectrum.

“Christopher’s immense experience in the energy industry will greatly contribute in ensuring that NERSA execute its mandate to ensure sustainable development of the electricity, piped-gas and petroleum industries to balance the economic interests of all stakeholders and ensure the sustainable socioeconomic development of South Africa,” concludes Jacob Modise, Chairperson, NERSA.
