Pick n Pay makes changes to its Group Executive

Paulo Peereboom, formerly Commercial and Supply Chain Director, will become Retail Operations and Supply Chain Director.  Building on his extensive retail operating experience, Paulo will bring these two areas under single leadership, and will be tasked with refining and implementing the company’s new operating model.


Pick n Pay unbundles its pyramid

Pick n Pay Stores announced today that it was seeking shareholder approval for a proposal to replace its current pyramid ownership structure with a simpler, more modern single share listing. Shareholders will vote on 25 July.


Raymond Ackerman honoured as a global leader

Pick n Pay founder Raymond Ackerman has been hailed as a “global leader” by Rutgers University-Camden which today conferred on him an Honorary Doctorate in Business. This is the entrepreneur and philanthropist’s seventh honorary degree and one of numerous international awards. Pick n Pay Transformation Director, Suzanne Ackerman-Berman, was also present at the Rutgers School of Business to deliver the commencement address to an audience of more than 2,000 people, including 351 students receiving their undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Container brothers pack it in

Two of Cape Town’s most successful industrialists, brothers Neil and Cecil Jowell, have retired after more than six decades of involvement at the ever-morphing transport business Trencor. Neil and Cecil are the sons of the late Joe Jowell, who founded Trencor – then trading as Jowells Garage and Transport – as a humble motor dealership and one truck transport business in Springbok in the late twenties.
