Over the past two years, Sea Harvest has enjoyed tremendous success and has even bigger ambitions for 2017. This year alone the company’s shareholders invested close to R600m in capital investment and growth which has led to Sea Harvest becoming one of the largest vertically integrated black-owned fishing companies in the country.

Transnet Port Terminals’ exports a billion tons of iron ore

The 18th of August 2016 marked a historic milestone for Transnet Port Terminals’ Saldanha operations. One billion tons of iron ore passed through the SaldanhaBulk Terminal, which is South Africa's main iron ore export terminal and a highly mechanised bulk-handling facility that remains the largest facility in the Port of Saldanha. In addition to that, due to Saldanha having South Africa's largest natural anchorage port with the deepest water – the terminal is also where the first deliveries of Iron Ore were exported on the vessel Fern Sea during September 1976.

Saldanha Bay IDZ gains traction

On Friday 10th June, the Saldanha Bay IDZ Licencing Company (SBIDZ-LC) held their second annual Suppliers Awareness Day at the Protea Hotel in Saldanha Bay. The purpose of the event was to provide general feedback around enterprise development, the progress of the IDZ’s infrastructure and opportunities, as well as the policy changes from National Treasury’s Supply Chain Management landscape affecting local businesses. The day saw wide representation from stakeholders from the business development community and was attended by over 100 delegates.

Sea Harvest packs for Perth

CAPE TOWN’s iconic hake company Sea Harvest has surprised the old salts in the fishing industry by casting deep into international waters. In early January Sea Harvest – which has a large production plant based in Saldanha Bay – announced a 19,9% investment in Mareterram Limited, a specialist fishing company-based in Perth and (recently) listed on the Australian Stock Exchange. The move was largely unexpected with Brimstone, the controlling shareholder on Sea Harvest, seemingly intent on pursuing organic growth by building additional non-seafood frozen food ranges.
