The most recent success story, is the result of the CSSA, Computer Olympiad, which is one of the oldest and largest competitions of its kind in the world. It aims to identify, encourage and reward programming aptitude, promote and encourage computer studies and to create an awareness of the potential uses of computers.
The Olympiad consists of three rounds. The first round identifies the aptitude of the participant for a career in Information Technology. If a learner does well enough he may be selected to compete in the third and final round. The top learners from participating schools in the final round represent the country in the International competition.
Junior Division
Although only in Grade 7, Ural Jonathan Alp achieved 1st place in Round 1. According to the Computer Olympiad office, his is the highest score reported for a Grade 7 learner in South Africa within the group of schools that participated.
Senior Division
Parklands College round 1 results are: 1st Place – Trent Harris, Gr 12, 2nd Place – Alexander Strydom, Gr 10, 3rd Place – Craig Le Roux, Gr 12. Congratulations to each and every one of you on this outstanding achievement.
