Message from the Accelerate Cape Town CEO

It is with great excitement that I great you all as we launch the first edition of the Accelerate Cape Town newsletter. We have experienced enormous goodwill and support from various sectors within business, public sector, labour and civil society as we engaged with these institutions to develop a common vision around how we collectively view the future development of the Cape Region as a preferred business and visitors destination. We have also actively sought to discuss and plan around future projects such as efforts to improve the visitor experience, helping position the Cape as a Creative IT hub, and developing the Cape as a global innovation hub for Alternative Energy. We are also in the discussion phase to establish a “Centre of Creativity”, bringing together the City’s leading creative minds from the worlds of architecture, film, advertising, tourism, fashion, media, design, IT, theatre, music, etc. The objective would be to use this creative platform as a nexus of creative discussions and implementation of projects. Furthermore the need to get Capetonians involved in the debates around the future of the City will be enhanced with the Creative Dialogue sessions which will also start off in early 2008. We have also had a very successful dinner between the Mayor of Cape Town, Helen Zille, and senior business leaders. One key outcome of this dinner was an agreement that businesses needed to get much more involved in 2010, and more specifically in the Fan Parks. The Mayor and Accelerate Cape Town will convene a meeting at the end of November with key stakeholders to facilitate this. In conclusion we have seen a steady growth in our membership and were fortunate to have Mallinicks and BP join Old Mutual and KPMG as our corporate members.
