Kruger Park Helps 2010 Customers

Accommodation for 2010 has been an issue for many of the soccer fans ready to place bookings for the sporting event. The Kruger National Park has had bookings overlap with the 2010 Soccer World Cup bookings agency for the world cup period. Kruger Park has contacted those visitors who already booked the rooms with the Park and made other accommodation available for them.
The Kruger National Park is aware that in the two month period of the Soccer World Cup many of their accommodation is booked to the 2010 Soccer World Cup booking agency. In the article below Bongekile Mhlanga reports on the bookings agency and the Kruger National Park accommodation for 2010 and technicalities that it involves.

Skukuza - South African National Parks (SANParks) has made alternative arrangements for customers that were left stranded with no accommodation because of a booking system error.
The error, which affected bookings in the June/July 2010 period in the Kruger National Park (KNP), affected 17 customers.
"The customer's bookings were accepted into the system despite the fact that the allocated units were already committed to a block booking arrangement with Match (the 2010 Soccer World Cup booking agency)," said SANParks chief operating officer, Sydney Soundy.
"The Match accommodation was for international customers that will visit the country during the World Cup," he said.
Soundy apologised for the inconvenience and said the organisation had contacted all the affected customers and proposed to move their bookings elsewhere in the park.
"All 17 customers were contacted and offered alternative camping sites within the KNP.
"Two families declined the accommodation and took their grievances to the media," said Soundy.
70% of park for SA market
He said SANParks still wanted to find mutually acceptable solutions for the two families "as far as are practically possible".
SANParks entered into an agreement with Match Event Services in 2008 to reserve accommodation for 2010.
"We therefore had time to ensure that the relevant accommodation facilities were blocked out specifically to satisfy our agreement with Match," said Soundy.
He said management informed customers that only three camps would be reserved for Match, the other 70% of the park reserved for the South African market.
In Skukuza, only 85 of the 102 sites have been allocated to Match.
Soundy dispelled rumours that South African customers were being forced to step aside for international customers.
"The idea that South Africans have to step aside for foreigners is totally unfounded," he said.
He also said SANParks valued its South African customers.
