Business and CID team up to improve area for all

Oranje-Kloof City Improvement District (OK CID), in its continuing mandate to fight crime and grime and to uplift the area, has once again partnered with local businesses to continue its upgrade of Kloof Street and the surrounding areas.
The sidewalk paving outside the Kloof Street Kwik-Spar and Opal Lounge was recently upgraded and young trees planted to assist in offsetting the CID’s carbon footprint.
The new pothole-free sidewalk both enhances the aesthetic appeal of the storefront entrance and guards the safety and wellbeing of pedestrians.
Concurrently, the Kwik-Spar itself has undertaken a re-development. It now boasts a new outdoor seating area, relocated till points to optimise flow, a meat deli, bakery, fruit and vegetable stand, two ATMs (ABSA and Standard Bank) and a Tops outlet.
Plans are in the pipeline to include a foreign exchange counter, additional public phones outside and a digital photo development counter.
The Spar will be re-launching the store on 23 March 2009 with promotional give-aways and competitions offering everyone the opportunity to join in the celebration.
Says Leon Fortes, property owner of the buildings which house the Kwik-Spar and recently upgraded Opal Lounge: “The upgrade of the paving outside the buildings has been pivotal to the upliftment of the area and has added significant value to the properties concerned. We are grateful to the CID for partnering with us in implementing these initiatives and encourage all business in the OK CID to do the same.”
Says Marc Truss,Chief Executive for the Green Point and Oranje-Kloof CIDs: “As always, we are dedicated to making the areas within our districts as accessible, pleasing to the eye and safe as possible. We are confident that these improvements will succeed in adding value to not only the visitors and residents in the area, but also to the businesses that benefit from the increased foot traffic.”
In conjunction with the Oranje-Kloof CID, an increasing number of retail businesses along Kloof Street are investing in the look and feel of the area. The impact thereof is evident in the area’s increasing popularity, and with further upgrades on the way, Oranje-Kloof residents and visitors alike can continue to enjoy a prosperous and cosmopolitan Kloof Street.
The Oranje-Kloof CID welcomes all suggestions and feedback which can be sent to info@okcid.co.za.
