EDITOR'S LETTER
Welcome to July 2009.
We’re proud to be celebrating Green Point CID’s eighth birthday this July and have taken this opportunity to reflect on some of the highlights of the past year.
Before we do that I would personally like to extend a huge thank you to our partners for their ongoing support and outstanding contribution to the communities they serve. Together we are able to fight the scourge of crime and grime and create areas in which the greater community of Cape Town want to live, work and play.
The CIDs have made a significant impact in their mandate to assist the City of Cape Town in fighting crime and grime over the past eight years: crime has bee reduced by an impressive 60% in the GP CID area and 55% in the OK CID area. [Read More]
We’ve also played an integral role in a number of social up-liftment programmes as well as initiating upgrades to our areas. These upgrades really add life and light to our communities and also make them more accessible and safe for everyone living and working nearby. Read more about these initiatives in the highlights section of this newsletter. We were thrilled that the Atlantic Sun and People’s Post featured several of these projects and shall endeavour to continue to improve and enhance our communities
We also have a lot to look forward to. One project which we are excited to introduce is a Cape Town based recycling company called No Standing, who provide an efficient and affordable solution to preserve the environment. [Read More]
There are also a couple of great events and shows coming up over the next few weeks so be sure to check out the events section of the newsletter for details. [Read More]. And last, but certainly not least, we’ve put together a selection of delectable restaurant specials to give you something to look forward to on these cold rainy winter days. [Read More]

CRIME AND GRIME
What you need to know about your local Neighbourhood Watch
It is great to see that neighbourhood watch initiatives are popping up all over Cape Town and what a positive impact they are having on curbing crime. The OK and GP CIDs would like to commend three in particular, which have really made a difference in and around the city bowl:
Devil’s Peak/ Vredehoek, Tamboerskloof and Oranjezicht/ Higgovale Neighbourhood Watch.
We’ve put together an article to tell you a bit about how they function and what their goals are, how to sign up and be part of the neighbourhood watch in your area and how to report a crime. [Read more]

FEEDBACK
Hi there
I would just like to thank you and your wonderful employees. I was stranded on the side of the Green Point Main Road the other day, with a phone that had a battery about to run flat and a car with a battery that was completely dead. Your employees, Mr K. Jonathan and Mr Q. Adams, they were so wonderful and helpful, they stopped without me having to wave down and started my battery and then escorted me to find a battery shop that was open in town, as it was a Saturday at 13h00 and not many places were open.
It is so nice and refreshing to have two men, who were so friendly and genuinely concerned. I was blown away and really want to commend you, your company and your employees on a wonderful service, with literally a smile.
Thank you for your dedication to Green Point.
Regards,
Kerri
