Welcome to September 2009.
It’s been another busy month for the CID team, with a number of joint operations with SAPS and the CCID taking place at various locations. I would like to congratulate everyone involved for their hard work and dedication to making Green Point and OranjeKloof a safer place to live, work and play.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Adrien Desmarais and the rest of the Paving Progress team for the work they’ve done upgrading the sidewalks in both the GP and OK CIDs over the past couple of years. Read the interview with Adrien to find out more about their involvement and recent projects.
Spring has finally arrived in the Cape which means that it’s time to dust away the winter cobwebs and clear out all the clutter. We’ve put together a list of shelters where you can take any clothes, blankets or toys that you don’t need anymore, click here to read more about this initiative now.
We would like to extend a warm welcome to the De Waterkant Market in Green Point and Silver Restaurant and Boutique on Kloof Street. Read more about these new hotspots in the lifestyle section.
There are also some exciting upcoming events, including Rocking the Daisies eco-friendly music and lifestyle festival. Click here to find out more about this festival and the other events taking place over the next few weeks.
I look forward to bringing your our next update next month, but until then take care and please email any questions or information to info@gpcid.co.za.
Best wishes,

CLEANSING
OK CID Waste Update
In August 2009, 'supplementary cleansing' has resulted in the collection and removal of an estimated 11 900 kgs (1 700 bags) of waste from the Oranje-Kloof CID area and 9 800 kgs (1400 bags) from the Green Point CID area.
SOCIAL UPLIFTMENT
SPRING CLEANING
Spring has finally arrived in the Cape and everyone is gradually coming out of hibernation to enjoy the sunshine and lovely longer evenings.
It’s the perfect time to do a really good spring clean and pack away all your winter coats, boots and clutter around the house. If you come across anything that you don’t need or use anymore why not take it to the nearest shelter or orphanage?
There is an endless need for clothes, blankets and food, and by donating a couple of items you can really make a difference to some-ones life. To make this even easier for you we’ve compiled a list of places in and near the GP and OK CIDs for you to drop off any donations. Read more LIFESTYLE

INTERVIEW
INTERVIEW WITH ADRIEN DESMARAIS
Over the past four years Progressive Paving has completed a number of paving upgrades in both the Green Point and OranjeKloof CIDs. We chatted to Adrien Desmarais to find out more.
What role do you play in the development and enhancement of the GP and OK CIDs?
My role is to enhance the pedestrian walkways, bring them to life and remove the dull black top.
What was your most recent project in the GP or OK CID area?
We repaved the area outside the Kloof Street Friendly Spar / 711 for the OK CID, and On Tap on Strand Street for the GP CID.
How has this made a difference?
The Kloof Street project has created a lot more open space and less clutter, and Strand Street On Tap seems cleaner and tidy.

SPRING SECURITY ALERT
With the advent of Spring, keen gardeners are bound to be out and about, soaking up the sun and enjoying getting their gardens back into shape.
With this in mind, the CID team would like to extend an important safety tip to all gardeners: lock away your garden tools once you have finished using them. Unfortunately if they fall into the wrong hands they can be used as weapons or to break into a home, which is demonstrated in the visual above.
