Welcome to January 2010.
I hope you all had a festive, fun and happy holiday season and that 2010 has got off to a good start. The CIDs are really looking forward to the next couple of months, and will be maintaining our focus on the safety and security of both the GP and OK districts as well as participating in the preparation for the FIFA World Cup, ensuring that the event runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible.
As well as our regular newsletter updates, we have a couple of great feature articles and information on new hotspots for you to visit this month. For all OK CID residents, you’ll be pleased to hear that The Labia Theatres are continuing their movie/ meal specials into 2010, click here to find out more. Next time you’re in need of a caffeine fix and want to try somewhere new, pop into Truth.Coffeecult on the corner of Buitengracht and Somerset Road at the Prestwich Memorial site or read more about it by clicking here. We’ve also put together some useful sustainability tips that will simultaneously help you to do your bit for the environment, and also cut down on your expenses in 2010.
Finally I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate and thank the CID team and SAPS, Metro and Law Enforcement for their support, continued dedication and hard work as we celebrate the Oranje-Kloof’s eighth birthday on 15 January 2010. The thank you letters included in this newsletter are a testament to how much this support is appreciated.
Best wishes,
Marc Truss

We have received some great feedback over the festive season and would like to share a couple of these emails with you:
Good Day Marc,
Compliments of the season to you.
Please accept my apologies for my belated letter as I have been out of town.
On behalf of the Tramway Ladies soccer team, I would like to express our gratitude for the sponsorship of the trophies and the lamb for our year end function. Without the support of people like you, we would not have been able to reach our goals.
Thank you once again for the generous support of our team.
Hope to see you soon at one of our soccer games.
Regards
Nicky Lotter

USEFUL TIPS
Sustainability Tips - Water
This first batch of tips will help you to significantly cut down on your water usage, resulting in a much lower water bill.
- Check all taps, showerheads and overflow pipes regularly and have them repaired when necessary. A dripping tap may waste between 30 and 60 litres of water every day.
- Add tap aerators onto bathroom and kitchen taps to reduce normal tap flow from around 20 – 30 litres per minute to 6 – 10 litres. (A tap aerator costs about R35).
- Place a plastic bottle or ‘hippo bag’ into your toilet cistern which will reduce the amount of water per flush (a hippo bag costs about R17).
- Converting your toilet to a multi-flush (flushes while handle is held down) or a dual-flush (long and short flush) system can result in a 20% decrease on your water bill.
- Look for water and energy efficient products when buying new household products such as dishwashers and washing machines. Dishwashers use 40 – 75 litres of water per wash on average; however efficient machines use as little as 13 litres.
