CID News - July 2010

Send Article Twitter Contact us
Despite the fact that the excitement and festivities of the FIFA World Cup have drawn to a close, I am feeling incredibly high spirited about the event and the effect (and affect) it has had on South Africa as a whole.

I’d like to congratulate the entire CID team for the tremendous effort they made during the tournament in assisting with the ‘Fan Walk’ management company Celeb SA, Law Enforcement Agencies, especially SAPF, Metro, Traffic Services and the private entities such as Vetus Schola and the neighbourhood watch of Vredehoek through ensuring that events along the Fan Walk ran smoothly.

Crime was kept to a minimum and we were proud to be part of such a momentous event. St Andrews Square in particular is a great success story, with thousands of residents and tourists alike gathering around the performers, taking in the cultural significance and enjoying the refreshments on offer whilst making their way towards the Cape Town stadium.

If you’re feeling at a bit of loss now that there is no football to watch, check out the list of winter restaurant specials in Green Point and read through our list of upcoming events for some inspiration on what to do and where to go over the next couple of weeks. Don’t forget that it is Mandela Day this Sunday, 18 July too.

The CID team is also busy working on a couple of exciting initiatives in both Oranje-Kloof and Green Point which we’ll tell you more about next month once they are underway.

Best wishes,
Marc Truss
OK/GP CID CEO

NEW DEVELOPMENTS

I’m taking the bus

The 2010 FIFA World Cup has brought so much more to Cape Town than eight matches, a party, the gees, ayoba, waka waka and millions of people who filled the streets with colour, proudly representing their different nationalities.

Proper Public Transport in Cape Town has always only been a dream. Now, with the MyCiTi Bus we can proudly say, “I’m taking the bus to work”. It is safe, quick, reliable and cost effective. For only R8 you can take the inner city loop which has two services, going clock wise and anti clock wise around the CBD ... read more

Nelson Mandela Day, 18 July

The idea behind Mandela Day is to convey a global call to action for people to identify their power and potential to address social issues such as human rights, education and literacy, health, hunger and poverty, conservation and social enterprise, one step at a time.

To start this process, each and every person around the world is encouraged to spend at least 67 minutes giving back to the community, by doing something good for others in honour of Nelson Mandela’s 67 years of service to humanity.

The Icon himself was politically active for 67 years where he made his mark campaigning for the human rights of every South Africa since 1942. His life has an unmatched inspiration to the world at large ... read more

OUR 2010 Wrap Up

As the World Cup draws to a close, we are wrapping up the OUR 2010 Campaign. Money raised to date has been used to pay for membership fees for underpriviledged children to attend African Brothers Football Academy (ABFA), giving them the opportunity to play football in a safe environment, develop their skills under the guidance of experienced coaches, play in matches and tournaments, and interact with children from different cultures and backgrounds.

Please get in touch with us if you’d like to be involved in sustaining this initiative going forward, to give these children the chance to continue to enjoy and benefit from being members of ABFA. Visit www.cid2010.com to find out more.
