Despite the fact that the excitement and festivities of the FIFA World Cup have drawn to a close, I am feeling incredibly high spirited about the event and the effect (and affect) it has had on South Africa as a whole.
I’d like to congratulate the entire CID team for the tremendous effort they made during the tournament in assisting with the ‘Fan Walk’ management company Celeb SA, Law Enforcement Agencies, especially SAPF, Metro, Traffic Services and the private entities such as Vetus Schola and the neighbourhood watch of Vredehoek through ensuring that events along the Fan Walk ran smoothly.
Crime was kept to a minimum and we were proud to be part of such a momentous event. St Andrews Square in particular is a great success story, with thousands of residents and tourists alike gathering around the performers, taking in the cultural significance and enjoying the refreshments on offer whilst making their way towards the Cape Town stadium.
If you’re feeling at a bit of loss now that there is no football to watch, check out the list of winter restaurant specials in Green Point and read through our list of upcoming events for some inspiration on what to do and where to go over the next couple of weeks. Don’t forget that it is Mandela Day this Sunday, 18 July too.
The CID team is also busy working on a couple of exciting initiatives in both Oranje-Kloof and Green Point which we’ll tell you more about next month once they are underway.
