EDITOR'S LETTER
Welcome to November 2011
With summer on it's way (hopefully sooner rather than later) and less than eight weeks till Christmas, the silly season is about to kick off! Enjoy spending time in Green Point and Oranje-Kloof this summer; there is always a new shop or restaurant to discover and lots of time to call in on familiar favourites. Visit the Business Directories on our website for details.
We have lots of local news to share with you in our newsletter this month - find out all about the Table Mountain Bikers; the Cape Town Highlanders Drums and Pipes and their recent trip to Berlin; the new Metro Police Equestrian Unit horse stables in Green Point; and the MyCiTi bus route set to pass through both our CIDs. We have also put together a list of some of the hot spots in Green Point where you can unwind and enjoy a cocktail or two after work.
Finally, we have our AGMs coming up at the end of November so look out for details on the website next week if you'd like to attend the feedback sessions.
Best wishes,
Marc Truss
OK/GP CID CEO
CRIME AND GRIME
The GP/OKCID management team are all wearing new beige jackets with clearly visible GPCID and OKCID logos. Please don't hesitate to approach any one of them if you have questions, concerns or feedback. If there is an emergency, alert them immediately or call the shift manager on duty on 071 670 3019.
All GP/OKCID employees also have new black jackets with the logos clearly visible and 'We Heart Green Point' or 'We Heart Oranje-Kloof' on the back, depending which area they are based in. The rehabilitated team that manages and maintains St Andrew's Square are wearing new denim uniforms branded with the GP/OKCID logos too, so look out for them next time you're walking through the area.
CLEANSING
In September 2011, supplementary cleansing has resulted in the collection and removal of an estimated 8 400kgs (1 200 bags) of waste from the Green Point CID area and 12 600kgs (1 800 bags) from the Oranje-Kloof CID area. The GP/OKCID also participated in another big clean-up operation under the Western Boulevard in October. Between 100 and 200 bags of litter are collected each month from this small area.
INTERESTING NEWS
Table Mountain Bikers

Robert Vogel founded Table Mountain Bikers to create awareness about safety and cycle tracks on the mountain. It has grown in leaps and bounds since its inception with a database of over 200 cyclists.
They plan to build a single track on the slopes of Table Mountain with clear signage, in association with Pedal Power, to give cyclists marked routes to ride on. They have also started a forum on The Hub SA, which is an online community that shares cycling news, reviews, advice and classifieds in an interactive forum.
To find out more, get involved and enjoy a day out on the mountain, join the Table Mountain Bikers at the next Safe Mountain Day, which will be held on 20 November 2011. Hikers are welcome too. Read more for safety tips, emergency numbers and more information.
Cape Town Highlanders Drums and Pipes take Berlin by Storm
The Cape Town Highlanders Drums and Pipes band are taking part in Berlin's first military tattoo as you read this. 29 band members flew to Germany on 31 October 2011 to do four performances over three days in the O2 arena, which seats 68 000 people.
Their Pipe Major, Charles Canning, says, "It's an honour to be invited to this event and a lot of practice and planning has taken place in preparation for it over the past few months. We look forward to representing our beautiful city and South Africa as a whole."
The Drums and Pipes have been part of the regiment since its inception in 1885. Their members are incredibly diverse - culturally, racially and in terms of age, ranging from 16 right through to 73! Charles believes that the sense of belonging and camaraderie between bandsmen has played a pivotal role in their success. Read more
NEW DEVELOPMENTS
GP/OKCID welcomes the Metro Police Equestrian Unit to Green Point

The official opening of the City of Cape Town's Metro Police horse stable facilities took place on Monday 24 October. The stables are located right next to the stadium in Green Point and are the first permanent stables available to the Unit in the area since 2002.
Engineer Darryl Price-Lewis of OvP took every minute detail into consideration when designing the extraordinary stable yard, from the aesthetic appeal through to practical requirements such as sealed off, rodent proof storage areas and drainage systems. Read more
MyCiTi bus route to stop in the heart of the OKCID

Road works around Kloof Street are being done in preparation for new MyCiTi bus stops. Buses will also pass through Green Point en route to Camps Bay at a later stage. We look forward to having this public transport hub in our area. Read more to find out about the proposed bus routes.
LIFESTYLE
Our little black book for when the clock hits 5pm...

Summer has arrived, finally, so the forecast for the next few Fridays is not a cloud in sight, about 29°C, a light breeze and a holiday vibe wherever you go. Unfortunately, we can't all live the holiday and have to work. For this reason, 5pm on a Friday is something to look forward to. Dinner and drinks with friends while watching the sunset is one of the best ways to end off the week. Read more for details of some of our favourite restaurants and bars in Green Point, including Cubana, Soho Rooftop Bar, The Square at the Cape Quarter, Trinity and Beluga.

QUOTE OF THE MONTH
When we are motivated by goals that have deep meaning, by dreams that need completion, by pure love that needs expressing -- then we truly live life. - Greg Anderson
