The Green Point City Improvement District (GP CID) celebrated its seventh birthday by hosting an intimate celebration in St Andrews Square at Prestwich Memorial in Green Point on Wednesday 20 August.
Attended by staff, service providers and strategic partners, the event highlighted the successful fight against crime that is a result of partnership and team work between key role players in Cape Town.
An integral element of the birthday celebration was the awards ceremony to acknowledge dedication and service excellence. Awards were handed to key individuals from City Improvement Districts of Green Point and Oranje-Kloof in conjunction with the Cape Town Traffic Department. Award categories included certificates of appreciation to OK and GP CID personnel as well as Traffic Inspector of the Year, Traffic Officer of the Year and Traffic Warden of the Year.
Says Chief Executive, Marc Truss: “We have an incredible team who all dedicate their lives to making Green Point and Oranje-Kloof, our sister CID, the best place to live, work and play. It is only through the hard work of the CID guards, SAPS – including the horse unit, the Traffic Department and our service providers that we have been able to make the last seven years such a tremendous success.”
And a joint success it has been. According to GP CID records of reported crime, there has been a significant decrease in crime in the Green Point CID area, since their inception in July 2001.
Director Lynette Barnes from the Cape Town Central Police Station congratulated the Green Point CID on their achievements over the past seven years. Says Barnes: “We enjoy leading a team of dedicated individuals who, as our partners, work hand in hand with us to achieve the same goals in the successful prevention of crime”.
Concludes Chairperson of GP CID, Hugh von Zahn: “Thank you to everyone who has supported and assisted GP CID over the past seven years. We look forward to the next seven and to continuously delivering on our vision to be the City of Cape Town´s leading supplementary service provider for nurturing a safe, clean, attractive and accessible business and residential environment for all.”
