What's happening in your CID?
As the year 2008 draws to a close, we are both celebrating and mourning.
We celebrate as the CIDs continue to fulfil their mandate to combat “crime and grime” on a daily basis, and an acknowledgement to our loyal, dedicated, passionate and highly ethical staff who secured five arrests in the month of October. A thank you too for recognition received from the community, which is so appreciated by all the team members who strive to offer you their best.
We celebrate the beautiful area in which we live, play and work, by doing our part in restoring areas to keep it free from graffiti.
We celebrating the move of Societi “The home away from home” restaurant that relocated from the V&A Waterfront to Oranje-Kloof. We continue to list all the exciting events and activities happening in both the Green Point and Oranje-Kloof CID areas and celebrate the love of life, food, activity and the cosmopolitan atmosphere permeating our city.
And lastly, we celebrate the continued development of the Cape Quarter ‘Extension’ – adding additional value to the prestigious and enjoyable Cape Quarter.
The mourning is for the passing away of a valued team member, Mr. Coetzee (Mobile Drive – OKCID) who passed away this month due to medical reasons. It is a great loss to us all and we pledge our support to his family at such a sad time.
Enjoy our latest newsletter as we head towards the holiday season and please keep safe.

HOLIDAY SECURITY UPDATE Holiday safety tips
During holiday time you often find yourself in new areas you are not familiar with. We also tend to relax and let our guard down while on leave, which is great for stress-relief, but not for personal safety. Be aware that holiday makers are seen as ‘easy targets’ for criminals and decrease your chances of being a victim, by following these basic safety tips:
1. Always be aware of your surroundings ...(read more)

Cape Quarter ‘Extension’ Update: Letting process well underway
The Developer of the Cape Quarter ‘Extension’, The Cape Quarter Property Company, hosted a well attended ‘Update’ function on Monday 10 November, for residents and business owners in the De Waterkant community. Key issues relating to the development and its impact on the area were addressed while guests enjoyed delicious food and drink at the popular Fiesta restaurant in the Cape Quarter.
CIDs instrumental in five recent arrests
The Green Point and Oranje-Kloof City Improvement Districts have been instrumental in five successful arrests since the beginning of October 2008. These arrests – with three taking place in Green Point and two in Oranje-Kloof – include offences for house break-in and theft, possession of illegal substances, malicious damage to property, theft out of motor vehicle and possession of stolen property.
CIDs clean up the streets
The CIDs exist as a supplementary security and cleansing service. In addition to general cleansing, this also includes removing illegal graffiti from public areas within our boundaries.
In the past month alone, sixteen incidents of graffiti were removed in the De Waterkant area. This improves the overall look and feel of our area which in turn adds value and increases appeal. See attached before and after visuals.
Our favourite new restaurant in Oranje-Kloof
The popular Society Bistro, located in the V&A Waterfront for the past five years, moved to Oranje-Kloof, 50 Orange Street in mid-October this year.
Say owners Tammy Botbyl and Peter Weetman: “Societi is a neighbourhood ‘local’. We would like it to be a sanctuary for Capetonians and visitors looking for a home from home. More than cuisine, it’s a way of life – taking the time to savour a meal and enjoy the company of family and friends. We love it, it’s an extension of our home!”
My name is Melody Eleanor Kaye. On Monday, 27 October, at around 18:00 on Waterkant Street, my car window was smashed and some of my belongings stolen. As I realised my things had been stolen I received a call from Shift Manager Nigel Williams informing me that the thief had been caught and they were detaining him at the B.P garage. I have to just say that with people like this watching over the area, I will always feel safe. Your staff has a fantastic work ethic, a great understanding of how people need to be treated in circumstances such as this, as well as very high morals.
QUOTE OF THE MONTH
"The problem is not that there are problems. The problem is expecting otherwise and thinking that having problems is a problem."
