Welcome to February 2009
We hope that everyone had a well deserved break during the holiday season in 2008 and entered 2009 feeling revitalised.
Statistics on the 2008 holiday season “crime and grime” status are included in this newsletter and we are pleased to be able to report that in the OK and GP CID areas, crime was significantly reduced in comparison to 2007.
Thank you to the community, businesses, stakeholders, SAPS, Metro Police, Law Enforcement and various private security companies for all working together to provide a safer environment. In line with this sentiment is our letter of thanks to SAPS in honour of National Police Day that took place on the 27th of January 2009. Their dedication and hard work in making our areas safer and more secure deserves to be acknowledged.
Thank you too to the Friends of De Waal Park – it is really appreciated that you took the time to write. It’s always good to be able to pass onto our hardworking team the thanks.
As always, there are a multitude of leisure and lifestyle activities available in both the CID and OK areas. In this newsletter, we’ve put together some ideas for a “lunch route” in Green Point – focussing on some of the spectacular eateries in the area – do yourself a favour and make some time to experiment with the various menu’s. We’d also love to receive your restaurant reviews.
We’ve also visited a unique, new boutique in the area – worth a visit!
The gear-up for 2010 continues. With one year to go, development in the GP area in particular is moving ahead at breakneck speed. We shall keep you up to date with new developments as they take place and if you’d like to send us information on developments that you’ve noticed and any questions, please email us on info@gpcid.co.za.
Best wishes,
Marc Truss

FAN MAIL
Dear CID
I would like to thank your staff who responded within minutes to assist De Waalers who were deeply disturbed by a man who was trying to sell an obviously, stolen puppy late afternoon on 2/01/09. His story kept changing as he went from person to person.
Since it was 'only a dog' De Waalers were tempted to take the easy way out and just 'buy stolen goods' to ensure the safety of this little creature and then try and 'find' its rightful owner. This is of course, does NOT sit easy with us dog-owners who these days have to guard their pets like a guard dog! Moral dilemma!
Your staff ensured that we did not have to 'reward' this thief to take this puppy into our care, they had sufficient authority to demand that he tell them where he got this dog and that he take them to the rightful owners. Off they went. We thought that was that, and the group started discussing who would take on the responsibility of 'Sushi' - Lo and behold, within 30 minutes, the very relieved owners came to collect their puppy !
Gratitude and thanks to our neighbourly OKCID from Friends of De Waal Park!
Warm regards,
Marianna Oosthuizen
