Cape Town to experience developments in excess of R 28 Billion

Cape Town is expected to undergo a R 28 Billion major overhaul over the next few years according to the Cape Town Partnership. Some of the developments projects include the Green Point Stadium (R 3,2bn), new developments in Strand and Adderley Streets (R2,2bn) and Africa’s first Thai Hotel (R500m). According to the Cape Town Partnership, the Central City Development Strategy is gaining momentum and a growing support amongst stakeholders on a shared vision for the Cape Town Central City over the next 20 years. The Partnership together with various stakeholders have identified financial and business services, creative and cultural industries and the visitor economy as key growth points over the next few years. In addition to these growth points the Partnership have also earmarked projects such as an improved public transport, a range of housing options and infrastructure to support growth and management of public spaces as priority projects for implementation. This bold move by the Cape Town Partnership is certainly in line with Accelerate Cape Town’s vision that the Cape Region is in need of developing and implementing a long-term vision for sustainable, inclusive economic growth. It also augments our view that we all need to collectively work together in positioning the Cape Region as a global hub of innovation and creativity.
