South Africa's largest-ever sports sponsorship was signed in Johannesburg yesterday, Monday 27 August 2007, at Constitution Hill, when Absa and SAB Castle Lager inked a deal that will see the country's national soccer team get a whopping R500 million over the next five years!

"We believe this ground-breaking co-sponsorship arrangement will ensure Bafana Bafana exceeds all South Africans' expectations at the 2010 FIFA World Cup and beyond," said Molefi Oliphant of the SA Football Association (SAFA).

"When we play host to the world's greatest teams it is vital we have in place an efficient infra-structure and a motivated and well-trained squad that is backed by two of this country's most-loved brands as well as the entire nation. That will be the key to South Africa's success."

SAB Castle Lager has for a number of years played a critical role in shaping and developing South African football. Over the past 15 years the company has steadfastly supported the national team. Absa too has deep roots in South African soccer that stretch all the way back to 1982 when it sponsored the United Bank Challenge. In 2003 the country's largest retail bank once again re-entered the soccer arena when it agreed to sponsor the Absa Cup. Now Absa has extended its support to include Bafana Bafana.

Spearheaded by Megapro Marketing, the partnering of two of South Africa's most-loved brands and the national team heralds a new era in SA football. It will spark the nation's energy and excitement and further turn the spot-light on Bafana Bafana.
