It is quite daunting to sit in a room with four hundred odd head prefects and realise that the room is full of future CEOs, politicians and a possible president or two. That was my feeling as I sat in the Springfield Convent Hall with the Parklands College prefect executive - Tholo Lerotholi, Helene Bam and Dewald Engelbrecht - listening to Premier Helen Zille give an opening address on the evening of the 1 April 2009. The Springfield Student Leadership Forum involved a number of key note addresses on issues of international concern: global
warming, war and conflict, poverty etc. This was followed by open discussion on a resolution to put to the Western Cape Youth Parliament.
The young leaders had been given placards representing their schools which they raised if they wished to contribute to the discussion. The evening closed with an invitation to apply to be part of the delegation to the Youth Parliament. Our Head Prefect, Tholo Lerotholi, duly applied and we acknowledge him on being selected to be a part of that delegation. One of those possible future presidents may well have been sitting right next to me throughout the evening. Congratulations, Tholo, on the launch of your political career.
