Some of the Ways to earn Points with Vitality

Discovery's Vitality programme is well known for the variety of discounts and benefits that it offers to those members that take steps to improve their health. From discounts on 'Healthy Foods' at Pick n Pay to discounts on local and international flights and even discounts on movies at Ster Kinekor cinemas.

For the most significant points earnings though, one must work up a sweat, either at gym or in other fitness events. Alternatively, it can be as simple as walking out of your home, as now you can earn points if you buy an inexpensive pedometer which measures how many steps you take, and the more steps, the more points Vitality awards you. Clearly, Vitality offers members from all walks of life an opportunity to earn points and in doing so increase their savings...

VITALITY – HOW TO EARN POINTS – GETTING ACTIVE

There are Base Fitness and Booster Fitness points. The maximum points in each category is 15,000 per person per year, with a family
maximum of 30,000.

You will earn 150 points when you visit Planet Fitness, Virgin Active, or Run/Walk for Life. (Max one visit per day, subject to the annual maximum.) To get your points, Discovery needs your membership number and the gym you visit. If you haven’t already, phone Client Services on 0860-998877 and make sure they have this detail.

In addition, if you don’t have gym membership and don’t belong to Run/Walk for Life, but you do participate often in sporting events, you can register on sa-active.co.za for R100 per year, and earn points for sporting events completed. You need to register before the sporting event in question, but you do not have to book the sporting event through sa-active. The points earned per event vary (300 to 5000 each), and you will get 5000 booster points after your fifth registered event.

If you are registered with the National Golf Network, you will get 150 points for each registered round of golf you play, when you swipe your handicap card. (Again, you need to give Discovery your membership number.)

10,000 Steps is a new Vitality programme aimed at getting members to be active. Go to any Vitality Check pharmacy (currently Dischem or Clicks pharmacies) and purchase your Pedometer (around R100). Once you’ve got the hang of it, go back to the pharmacy and register (the pharmacy logs the reading on the pedometer). You’ll earn 1,000 points for registering, and, if you walk 5,000 steps per day in a month, you’ll earn 500 points in that month, if you walk 7,500 steps you’ll earn 750 points, walk 10,000 steps and earn 1,000 points. If you walk over 12,500 steps you’ll earn 1,000 points per month, plus an extra 500 booster points per month. The total points you could earn using the pedometer is 12,000 points, and 6,000 booster points.

All points shown above accumulate to the Maximum Base Fitness points of 15,000 per person, and the Maximum Booster Fitness points of 15,000 per person, per year.
