Shumba inc is a small design company based in Harare, Zimbabwe. Shumba began life in Cape Town, as the creative output of a lion-hearted girl battling cancer. During her long treatment and recovery period, Hayley began the process of healing by 'playing' with needle, felt and beads! Touched by the love and support of her own community, she stitched and beaded hope and positivity into her designs which gradually became successfull retail products. What began as a pastime helped to raise funds for her medical expenses which includes a bone marrow transplant.

With the help of her family and community, a remarkable healing took place. In 2003, Hayley returned home to Zimbabwe, where, together with her mother Gill and sister Phillipa (who had been by her side throughout the treatment) grew the 'project' into a self-funded philanthropic business enterprise. In an environment of hyper inflation, economic and political instability, high unemployment and overwhelming need, Shumba Inc. ignited a spark of hope pride and confidence in a deflated community.
