Behold, Discovery Bank!

The group finally takes the wraps off its offering. Well, sort of… Perhaps the only real surprise in yesterday’s public unveiling of Discovery Bank was the lack of any pricing information. The bank, which is expected to open to the public in March next year, is built on the fundamentals of its Vitality incentive-and-rewards programme, as has long been suspected.

Tsogo Sun dumps R23bn casino disposal deal with Hospitality

In July, the company said it would sell a portfolio of seven of its casino and hotel businesses to the Hospitality Property Fund. Hotel and gaming group Tsogo Sun on Monday ditched its proposed disposal of seven mixed-use casino properties to Hospitality Property Fund and also the subsequent distribution of the group’s entire holding of Hospitality shares to Tsogo shareholders after some investors did not support the transaction.

Eskom to cut management jobs

Eskom has approved a plan to cut jobs at a management level in a bid to further save on costs at the group. The power utility said that despite efforts to curb expenditure, its operating costs have continued to increase dramatically while output has remained largely unchanged.
