Piggyback Aches and Pains

There is so much focus on warehousing, retail, agriculture and production materials handling that one area is often neglected in overall planning, and that is truck mounted forklifts. There are a handful of brands catering to this specific niche, like Moffett, Palfinger, and Loadmac to name a few.

Who's been tickling the Sleeping Giant?

Are we seeing early signs of economic recovery in the Eastern Cape, asks John Valentine, Director at Real Telematics. Just recently I have been responding to more and more enquiries on the FMX Forklift Management System in Port Elizabeth and East London. Although I can claim that a fantastic product is getting its just dessert, I also know that it appears that most sectors of manufacturing industry in the Eastern Cape appear to be on an upwards curve.

What the load ....?

“From the amount of print and communication I’m seeing, it’s a safe bet to say that SOLAS (Safety of Life at Sea) has the Maritime Logistics industry in a right froth, and rightly so considering the additional costs implied,” says John Valentine, Director at Real Telematics. “In context however, it’s also fair to say that the industry was warned several years ago that the legislation was coming.”

Reforging the Supply Chain

There’s an old and very apt saying, “You are only as strong as your weakest link,” says John Valentine, Director at Real Telematics.

“There are just so many links in a typical Supply Chain that maintaining the integrity of the product/process becomes a full time job in itself.  The slightest deviation not picked up early enough can have catastrophic consequences at time of delivery, with the supplier not being paid, the customer not getting stock, the distributor not getting a load and everybody knocking on the insurance company’s door.”

Seasonality challenges

“A while ago I was sitting with a farmer in the Western Cape, and he was bemoaning the fact that although most Forklift Rentals were very similar, not much attention was paid to the additional costs he incurred like fuel and the driver,” says John Valentine, Director at Real Telematics. “He said that that the brands themselves had some variances, but he was basing his rental choice firstly on service from the Dealer, but also on whether the machines were already fitted with Real FMX.” Naturally his ears pricked up at this.
