R250m upgrading and expansion for BAW South Africa

BAW South Africa, a subsidiary of Beijing Automotive Works (BAW) China that is investing a further R250million to expand and upgrade its vehicle assembly facility in Springs, has expanded its 16-seater Sasuka taxi vehicle range with the launch of a turbo diesel engine model derivative.

R11,4m Strand Pavilion upgrade gets under way

The City is pleased to announce that a contractor has been appointed for the R11,4 million Strand Pavilion Precinct upgrade project. The earthworks have started. The Strand Pavilion Precinct upgrade project will comprise the resurfacing of the parking area near the launch pad off Beach Road, the establishment of a demarcated informal trading area, and the installation of public lighting. It further entails the construction of a new paved pedestrianised public square, which will be located opposite the existing circle on the Main Road. The creation of public seating and soft landscaping will also be a feature of the public square and minor upgrading of underground services will be done. The refurbishment of the Strand sea wall, which is also under way, forms part of the overall pavilion precinct revitalisation initiative.

Rolls-Royce officially opens MTU South Africa’s upgraded facility in Cape Town

Rolls-Royce has officially opened and unveiled MTU South Africa’s redesigned and upgraded facility with an official ceremony in Cape Town on 27 October 2016, where MTU employees will assemble, test, paint and commission around 200 MTU engines. The 20V Series 4000 R63L engines are to be installed in freight locomotives operated by the South African rail freight company Transnet Freight Rail (TFR). Rolls-Royce has invested around 50 million South African Rand (equivalent to 3 million Euros) in upgrading and revamping the facility to be able to localise the manufacturing of the engines. The MTU brand is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems.
