Land Rover announced as Official Vehicle of 2021 Castle Lager Lions Series

  • Continuation of a 24-year partnership and the seventh successive Tour that Land Rover has supported
  • Land Rover supports rugby at all levels, from grassroots to the world stage
  • Castle Lager Lions Series is scheduled to take place in Johannesburg and Cape Town from 3 July to 7 August

The British & Irish Lions and SA Rugby are delighted to confirm that Land Rover will be the Official Vehicle of The British & Irish Lions Tour to South Africa scheduled to take place in Johannesburg and Cape Town from 3 July to 7 August. The agreement sees the continuation of a 24-year relationship with the Lions and the seventh-successive Tour that Land Rover has supported.

Laura Wood Head of Global PR Brand & Partnerships, Jaguar Land Rover Global, said: Land Rover is extremely proud of its heritage within rugby around the world and the Lions Tour sits at the heart of that. The Tour to South Africa will be very different for the teams and fans, so we want to use our partnership and activation to ensure Land Rover brings the rugby community closer to rugby’s greatest adventure. For the previous Tour to New Zealand, over 9 million fans watched Land Rover’s content series, and we hope to build on that through unique content and digital activity that captures the spirit of adventure for fans around the world.”

Jurie Roux, CEO of SA Rugby, said: “Land Rover has been a proud partner of SA Rugby since 2017 and to have the brand as the Official Vehicle of the Castle Lager Lions Series is a continuation of a great partnership. Land Rover vehicles have become a regular feature in Springbok activities in that time and I’d like to thank the Land Rover team for its ongoing support in difficult times for all business.”

Land Rover Rugby Ambassador and former Springbok Bryan Habana added: “Having had the privilege to play against The Lions back in 2009, for me, the legacy of the tour stretched far beyond the field of play. It was incredible to see the impact that the Lions had within the communities around South Africa and the importance of giving back played an integral part of that tour. Having also seen first-hand how Land Rover has impacted the game of rugby both at the pinnacle as well as grassroots level, I have no doubt this year’s tour in South Africa, will once again have a legacy that goes Above and Beyond the four lines within which the game will be played.”

Land Rover has a broad portfolio of rugby partnerships around the world that spans all levels of the game from grassroots to the world stage. The brand also works with a number of current and former Lions players as brand ambassadors. Land Rover has also been an official partner of SA Rugby since 2017, and works with several of the current Springbok players including Duane Vermeulen, Lukhanyo Am, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Bongi Mbonambi, Trevor Nyakane, Frans Steyn, Sbu Nkosi and Jesse Kriel as brand ambassadors.
