Five fast talking funny men in the mix for comedy event at GrandWest

Five fast talking local comedians are in the mix for the next Hanover Street Comedy Sundowners at GrandWest. Unleashing their special brand of humour on 7 August 2016 are Carl Weber, Rob van Vuuren, Yaaseen Barnes, Tsitsi Chiumya and Nkosinathi Maki.

Weber has enthralled comedy fans at Hanover Street on many occasions and is set to have his audience in stitches of laughter yet again. He has been honing his comedic skills on Cape Town’s comedy circuit since 2010. In 2011 he won both Phat Joe’s Cape Town’s Next Comic sponsored by Heart FM, as well as the Graca Comedy Showdown, which also won him a spot in the coveted Nando’s Comedy Festival, where he shared a stage with international comics.

Van Vuuren also needs little introduction having been immersed in the comedy scene for over a decade. An established comedian and actor, he is well known for his role as Twakkie in the SABC2 comedy series, The Most Amazing Show. He has also appeared in numerous stage productions and received various award nominations for his roles.

Yaaseen Barnes is a fresh face on the local comedy scene. First making a splash as the winner of the Joker’s Comedy Championship in 2013, Barnes was quickly noticed and went on to perform at major festivals such as Rocking the Daisiesand the Grahamstown National Arts Festival. He is now a regular at local comedy hot spots. 2014 saw Barnes taking the coveted title of GoodHope FM’s LaughMaster where he went on to perform at the Cape Town Funny Fest alongside Trevor Noah and Riaad Moosa.

The doors will open at 17h00 and the festivities will kick off at 18h00. The cost to enter is R55 per person, strictly for over 18s. The first 100 guests to arrive will receive a complimentary Savanna. Contact 082 588 6662 to book.
