Cape Town-based LPG gas company, Avedia Energy is heralding a new era with the appointment of an executive team which will see the energy start-up commission its first LPG facility on the West Coast.
“Nine years ago we identified the need for a permanent LPG solution in South Africa and established Avedia Energy to address the inadequacies of the existing production and support infrastructure in the country and the wider Southern African region. We are now ready to deliver on this promise with the appointment of new members to our EXCO” says Atose Aguele, CEO of Avedia Energy.
Avedia is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Herbert Ngwenya as chief operating officer (COO). Ngwenya is a qualified mechanical engineer holding an MBA with extensive experience in the South African oil and gas sector which includes tenures at Afrox Limited and Sasol Chemical Industries. He also served as chairman of the LPG Safety Association of Southern Africa and is a member of the World LPG Association Global Technical Committee.
“Herbert’s solid experience and proven track record makes him ideally positioned to head-up Avedia’s operations and we are excited to have him on the team” says Aguele.
Appointed as chief financial officer, Shiyaam Rossie also joins the Avedia Energy management team. Rossie is a registered chartered accountant with extensive experience in logistics, distribution and mining operations.
“Shiyaam’s exposure to varied business environments and her solutions based approach makes her a natural fit for the Avedia team. We wish her every success in her new role” says Aguele.
Present in the local market since 2007, Avedia Energy has built a LPG import terminal and handling facility at the Port of Saldanha which will be commissioned in the third quarter of 2016. This is the first significant dedicated LPG import facility on a 4300 kilometre shoreline, stretching from Luanda in Angola to Richards Bay on the KwaZulu Natal coast. The facility provides an overall storage capacity of 8 000MT in its final phase, which will boost the existing import LPG storage capacity in South Africa by at least 80%. This R300m infrastructure investment is the largest privately funded LPG import facility in South Africa.
